CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry, commonly called the White Card, teaches the basic health and safety principles used in the construction industry. It covers how to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses, identify hazards and risks, and manage workplace injuries. Anyone who carries out construction work must complete a general construction induction and hold a valid White Card.

The White Card course (VIC) is suitable for anyone working on a construction site, including:

Self-employed workers
Labourers
Apprentices
Trainees
Tradespeople
Supervisors and project managers

This training includes pre-learning knowledge through the ShortCourseFast online study system. This is NOT a compulsory part of the training. It aims to help students improve their cutting-edge knowledge.

This course will be formally delivered through a 6 (six) hours face-to-face training by the Innovative Institute of Australia.

You are required to undertake an assessment during the course of the day.

On enrolment, please advise if you require assistance with reading the questions, and you will then be placed in the next available course where assessment support is provided.

PPE (Personal Protective Equipment):

The required PPE gear for assessment is a hard hat, earmuffs, safety goggles, and a high-visibility vest.

The Innovative Institute of Australia will provide PPE during the assessment stage. Students do NOT have to bring or purchase their own PPE for attending the class. However, students are welcome to bring their own if they prefer.

Entry Requirements:

The unit, CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry (VIC) (White Card), is open to everyone. No prerequisites, experience, or prior knowledge are required.

Students are required to have basic skills in English reading, writing, listening and speaking.

How to apply?

Upon successful completion of the Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry (VIC) (White Card) training, you will be issued an official Statement of Attainment — commonly referred to as the CPCWHS1001 - Prepare to work safely in the construction industry — by the Innovative Institute of Australia (IIA). This document serves as an interim White Card for up to 60 days.

As a registered training organisation (RTO) approved by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA), IIA’s certification is nationally recognised and serves as formal evidence of your successful training.

Your certificate will be issued via email and can be verified through the USI (Unique Student Identifier) system.

If you prefer a printed copy, it can be provided upon request for an additional administrative and postage fee. It is recommended that you provide a copy of your certificate to your employer and retain a digital copy for easy access while at work.

Your physical White Card, issued by WorkSafe Victoria, will be posted to you within a few weeks. The cost of applying a physical White Card has been included in our course fee.

Certificate Valid:

CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry (White Card) does not expire. However, it is recommended to complete a refresher course if you have not worked in the construction industry for two years or more. This ensures your knowledge of current health and safety protocols is up to date before returning to work.

How do I pay the fees?

You can pay the fees via bank transfer or online payment. The online payment system is supported and secured by National Australia Bank (NAB).

How fast does the course take to complete?

Most people complete online courses in as fast as 3 to 4 hours.

When will you get your Statement of Attainment?

Our assessors work full-time from Monday to Friday and typically process your Statement of Attainment within 1 business day after course completion.

Unique Student Identifier (USI) is an Australian government system to keep track of a student’s training records and qualifications.

Your Unique Student Identifier (USI) is your personal education number required for all nationally recognised study, including university and vocational education and training (VET), including diplomas, degrees and accredited short courses.

Students can apply for a FREE unique USI from the government website. A USI code is made up of 10 letters and numbers; it is free and stays with a student for life.

If you complete an accredited short course with us, we will update your nationally recognised training in the system within 15 working days after your training completion.

If you have studied in Australia before, including formal study for qualifications or accredited short courses, you should have applied USI already. If you cannot remember your USI number, you can get it back from the government system.

Statement print fee

Short Course Fast sends Statement of Attainment as electronic copies to students within five (5) business days of successful course completion via email. If students request a printed Statement of Attainment, they will be charged a printing fee of AUD$15.00. Please speak with your trainer if you require a hard copy.

Statement post fee

Students can pick up the printed certificates or ask Short Course Fast to post the printed Statements of Attainment. The post will be sent via Australia Post Express Post, and students will be charged a post fee of AUD$15.00 per printed statement.

Failure to make payment

Before starting training courses, students are required to pay all fees. No Statements of Attainment and/or Certificates will be issued until full payment has been made.

Refund policy

Students will receive a refund of 75% of the total payment if they submit a written notice of withdrawal 5 (five) working days prior to their courses' commencement date. An admin Fee of 25% of the total payment will be charged.
Students will receive a refund of 50% of the total payment if they submit a written notice of withdrawal 3 (three) working days prior to their courses' commencement date. An admin Fee of 50% of the total payment will be charged.
Students will NOT receive any refund if they submit a written notice of withdrawal within 2 (two) working days prior to the commencement of their courses or after the commencement of their courses.
The Statement Print Fee and the Statement Post Fee are NOT refundable.
